Keita-san is LiLo's head roaster. Bright blond hair, colored at our own hair salon LiLo in veve, plus his trademark mustache and glasses.

ケイタさんって、「一回顔を見ただけで忘れられない」まさにそんな言葉がピッタリな人ですよね〜！

He's exactly the kind of person you'll never forget after just one look.

ケイタさんって、なんか常に楽しそうに見えせんか？その秘密はなんなんでしょう。

Have you noticed he always looks like he's having the time of his life? What's the secret?

そばで見ていて、ぼくはケイタさんのことを「知らなかったことを一番楽しんでる人」だなぁと思います。

Watching him up close, I've come to think of Keita-san as someone who loves not knowing things more than anyone I've met.

例えば、人と喋っていて、自分があまり好きじゃないものを相手は好きなんだと知った時。自分の尊敬する人が、好きなものを教えてくれた時。

Like when he's talking with someone and discovers they love something he's never cared for. Or when someone he respects shares something they love.

こういう時にケイタさんって、人が興味を持ってることに素直に興味を持つんです。しつこいくらいそれについて聞いてきて、その人よりものめり込んでいきます。

In moments like that, Keita-san gets genuinely curious about whatever that person is into. He asks about it relentlessly — and somehow ends up more obsessed than they are.

そんな人、あなたの周りにもきっといますよね。あなたがそうかも？

ケイタさんの場合は、ハマる「速さ」と「深さ」がフツウじゃないんです。

With Keita-san though, the speed and depth he falls in are on a whole different level.

別人かと思った I thought he was a different person.

ケイタさんはもともと、「息が苦しいやんか〜」と、サウナが苦手だという話をしていたんです。

Keita-san used to say saunas made him feel like he couldn't breathe — he really wasn't a fan.

なのに、ぼくが気づいた時には、「サウナって最高なんですよ〜！！」「副交感神経と交感神経がね…」「何分の何セットがおすすめで…」と、まるで昔からそれが好きだったみたいな口ぶりで、スタッフやお客さんにおすすめしまくっていました。

Then one day, out of nowhere, he was telling staff and customers, "Saunas are the best!!" "It's all about your parasympathetic and sympathetic nerves..." "I recommend this many minutes, this many rounds..." — talking like he'd loved it his whole life.

スタッフ有志でサウナに行った時の集合写真 — みんなでサウナに行くのが年末の恒例行事です。

あれ？苦手って言ってたの、勘違いだったっけ？と記憶を疑うほど。

Wait, didn't he say he hated it? I actually started doubting my own memory.

ケイタさん、サウナ嫌じゃなかったんですか？

Keita-san, I thought you didn't like saunas?

KEITA

「いや、それがな…」

"Well, funny story..."

どうやらサウナ好きの堀田さんと一緒に行ったことをきっかけに、その気持ちよさにすっかり夢中になったみたいです。それにしても、自分のモノにするまでが速すぎです。

Turns out, going with Hotta-san — a huge sauna lover himself — was all it took. He fell completely in love with how good it felt. Still, the speed at which he made it his own is kind of ridiculous.

人生はワクワクの探検 Life is an expedition of excitement.

それから数ヶ月後、ケイタさんと話している時に、ケイタさんの根っこにある性質がちょっとだけ見えた出来事がありました。

A few months later, during a conversation with Keita-san, I caught a glimpse of what's really at the root of who he is.

仏教を勉強するのが好きだというケイタさんに話を聞いていたら、ケイタさんが座右の銘にすると決めたほど心に刺さった言葉を教えてくれました。

Keita-san loves studying Buddhism, and one day he shared a phrase that struck him so deeply, he decided to make it his personal motto.

知らざるを知らずと為す、是れ知るなり。

"To know that you do not know is the beginning of knowing."

…ちょっと難しいです。知らざるを、知らず？

...that's a little tricky. Not knowing what you don't know?

KEITA

「知らないことに対して自分はこのことを知らなかったのだと認識することで、初めて理解が始まる、っていう意味やねん」

"It means understanding only really begins once you recognize there's something you didn't know."

ほうほう。

I see, I see.

KEITA

「僕がサウナを好きになった時も、一気に好きになったはいいけど、全然サウナのことを知らんなあと気づいた。自分がまっさらで何も知らないと認めたら、そこからいろんな情報をスンスン吸収できるようになったんよね。」

"Same thing happened with the sauna. I fell for it fast, but then realized I knew basically nothing about it. Once I admitted I was a total blank slate, I could just soak up all kinds of information."

スンスン！確かに最初からサウナのことを知ったつもりでいたら、それ以上知ろうとしないですもんね。いつも謙虚でいなさいということですね。

Ha, "soak it up"! I guess if you assume you already know something, you stop trying to learn more. So... always stay humble?

KEITA

「それもそう。やけどこの言葉って、常にワクワクが目の前にあるんだ！っていう意味やと思うんよ。」

"That's part of it. But I think what this really means is — there's always something exciting right in front of you."

あれっ。ケイタさんの目がキラキラしてきた気がします。

Wait. I swear his eyes just started sparkling.

KEITA

「知らんことだらけやと知れたら、周りにはワクワクしかない。そうじゃない？そう考えたら人生ってめちゃくちゃおもろいよね！」

"Once you realize you're surrounded by things you don't know, everything around you becomes exciting. Isn't that wild? Life gets ridiculously fun when you think about it that way."

そう、そうなんです。ぼくが思うケイタさんらしさはこれなんです。ケイタさんは、知らなかったことに気づけた時に、「へえ〜それ知らんやった！面白いなぁ〜！」と感情が動く人なんです。

Exactly. That's it. That's the thing about Keita-san. The moment he realizes there's something he didn't know, something in him lights up — "Oh, I didn't know that! That's so interesting!"

知らないことは、人によっては、興味が持てなかったり、不安の原因にもなると思います。でも、たぶん未知はケイタさんにとっては怖いことでもなんでもなく、ただただ楽しいんです。

For a lot of people, not knowing something can feel uninteresting, even a little unsettling. But for Keita-san, the unknown isn't scary at all — it's just pure fun.

「知らなかったこと」を知ると、そこに新しい「知らなかったこと」が見えてくる。もう少し深めると、もっともっと「知らなかったこと」が現れる。この繰り返しを、ものすごい速さと深さでやっちゃうのがケイタさんなんですよね。

The moment he learns something he didn't know, a brand-new "thing he doesn't know" appears. Dig a little deeper, and even more of them show up. Keita-san just keeps doing that loop — at an incredible speed, and to an incredible depth.

そう思うと、ケイタさんがリロコーヒーのヘッドロースターなのにも納得がいきました。だってコーヒーって、どれだけ深堀りしても、出会ったことのないおいしさだらけじゃないですか？出会えば出会うほどどんどん楽しくなる、そんな世界ですよね。

Which makes total sense why he's LiLo's head roaster. Coffee is a world where no matter how deep you go, there's always another flavor you've never tasted. The more you discover, the more fun it gets.

きっとケイタさんはこの"探検"の楽しさを知っているからこそ、「みんなにも楽しさを味わってほしい！」という想いがリロコーヒーの原動力になっているんです。ケイタさんの性質が、LiLoらしいコーヒーの楽しさをつくっているんですよね。

I think it's because Keita-san knows the joy of this kind of exploration that "I want everyone to feel this excitement too" became one of the driving forces behind LiLo Coffee. Who he is, at his core, is exactly what makes LiLo's coffee feel the way it does.
