◉THUNGURI Coffee Factory

ツングリ(Thunguri)とは、ケニア語でウェットミル、または「工場」の意味。

ツングリ・コーヒーファクトリーはちょうどキリニャガ郡とニエリ郡との境、カラティナ・タウンに近いところに位置しています。

1953 年に設立されたキビリギ生産者組合に属しており、ツングリの他にメインであるラガティ、ンググイニ、ムカング、キアンガイ、キビンゴティ、キアンジェゲ、チェマという 8 つのコーヒーファクトリーから構成されています。現在の組合員数は 6,888 人で、そのうち女性が 4,861 人、男性が 2,027 人です。ツングリ・コーヒーファクトリーでは適時、厳選されたハンド・ピッキングが行われており、チェリーは収穫されたその日のうちにウェットミルに運ばれます。ウェットミルでは、パルピングする前にチェリーの選別を行い、赤く熟したチェリーと未成熟・過熟・異物とを分離しています。精製過程で使用される処理水は付近のカンゴチョ川の水を引いており、精製過程において生じる排水は浄化し土壌に戻す取り組みを行っています。伝統的な発酵槽で入念な発酵と洗浄を行った後、アフリカンベッドで丁寧に天日乾燥を行い、仕上げています。
